Potential of Raspberry Flower Petals as a Rich Source of Bioactive Flavan-3-ol Derivatives Revealed by Polyphenolic Profiling

Inspired by the potential functional activity of polyphenol compounds contained in raspberry (Rubus idaeus), we previously explored effects cultivation environment and maturity on polyphenolic profiles leaves fruits. Herein, building our previous studies, used high-performance liquid chromatography chromatography–mass spectrometry to profile five parts flowers (receptacles, sepals, pistils, stamens, petals), revealing presence (+)-catechin, (−)-epicatechin, procyanidin B4, C3, sanguiin H-6, lambertianin C all flower parts. Petals also (−)-epicatechin-3,5-di-O-gallate, kaempferol-7-O-glucoside, naringenin-7-O-glucoside as well other flavan-3-ol derivatives efficiently scavenging free radicals inhibiting growth cancer (HeLa S3) cells. Thus, petals were concluded be a good source characteristic highly derivatives.
